South Link Light Rail Extension Public Art Plan

Sound Transit Public Art Program; SeaTac, Washington, USA; 2011.

Sound Transit’s Link light rail line connects downtown Seattle to communities north and south of the central city. The South Link Extension will continue the line to the new Angle Lake Station at S. 200th Street, south of SeaTac Airport. The Public Art Plan establishes a conceptual vision for art within the extension and identifies themes, locations, goals, and budgets for specific art projects. The artworks are envisioned as sensory devices that will be conditional and circumstantial, changing their appearance and performance at different speeds, vantages, light conditions, weather events, and seasons, thereby illustrating fluctuations in the environment and heightening one’s perception of the surroundings.
