Pitt County Arts Council; Greenville, NC; 2020.
In 2018, Greenville, NC was named a SmART Community, a designation of the North Carolina Arts Council that supports arts-driven economic development and creative placemaking projects. The Emerald Loop is a primary component of Greenville’s SmART plan. It envisions Greenville's Center City as a place of community, inclusivity, activation and innovation through a vibrant art overlay on the built environment. The Emerald Loop Vision Plan describes a collection of art experiences and destinations that connect cultural assets and catalysts with economic vitality.
Haddad|Drugan worked closely with Greenville’s Emerald Loop Resource Team, met with stakeholders and conducted community engagement to identify a variety of art experiences to be implemented over time through public and private investments. Art opportunities include a cohesive Center City lighting plan, gateways, plaza spaces, iconic sculpture, architectural facades, intersection art, treasure hunt, social practice spaces, pop-up events and a light festival–all connected by the Emerald Loop Trolley, a mobile art experience and the first project from the plan to be implemented.
The Emerald Loop Vision Plan includes background research, site analyses, a conceptual framework, art project descriptions and implementation strategies.
